The best 4K TVs for the Xbox Series X

(iStock / The Independent)

To get the most out of the Xbox Series X, you’ll need a 4K TV. More pixels make for a better picture, and if your TV can only handle 1080p resolution (also known as Full HD), your 4K-enabled Xbox X series isn’t delivering the picture quality it really can. .

The X series can also handle a higher frame rate of up to 120 frames per second, which older TVs cannot support. So if you want to get the most out of X Series games, a new TV is the way to go.

To help you improve your ensemble without breaking the bank, we’ve put together a list of best 4K TV deals for entertainment, movies and games.

New Xbox software update explained

Did you know that Microsoft recently rolled out a new software update for the Xbox Series X?

Released last weekend, the upgraded software features an all-new 4K dashboard. For context, before the upgrade, the console dashboard was converted to 1080p in 4K, but it will now be rendered in the native 4K resolution of the X series.

The new software also introduces Night Mode, allowing players to customize and reduce the brightness of their TV or monitor, as well as a Quick Settings menu to turn certain accessibility settings on and off without leaving a game.

What is the difference between Xbox Series X and Series S?

After the excitement of yesterday, it has been calmer so far today. Let us therefore recall the fundamentals and recall the technical differences between the two versions of the new Xbox.

There are two next-gen Xboxes, the less powerful Xbox S series, and the higher end Xbox X series.

All old and new Xbox games will work on both consoles, although on the less powerful Xbox Series S the overall graphics quality will be reduced. The Xbox Series S has no disc drive, has half the storage capacity, and can only play downloaded games. The Xbox S series is much easier to find in stock than the X series. It’s also cheaper and costs just £ 249 (

Here are the details, if you like to compare teraflops.

  • CPU: Custom 8-core Zen 2 processor
  • GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUS
  • Memory: 10 GB GDDR6

(Nintendo Switch)

While waiting for the Xbox Series X stock to drop, it’s worth mentioning that Nintendo’s new Switch OLED console is out now.

The OLED switch features an all-new, slightly larger display with OLED technology for enhanced colors, increased contrast, and deeper blacks.

There’s also a redesigned kickstand and the new console has double the internal storage of its predecessor.

But is the new Switch worth the upgrade? We have reviewed the console so you can make an informed decision.

The best gaming deals for Black Friday 2021

(The independent)

Black Friday, the shopping event of the year, is fast approaching. For 2021, the retail bonanza lands on November 26, but like in previous years, you can expect retailers to start sales sooner.

With the Xbox Series X still hard to buy, we don’t expect much of a discount on the Microsoft console. But that doesn’t mean retailers won’t include the readily available Xbox Series S in one or two discounted packs. And of course, there will be deals on other consoles, games, accessories and more.

To be in the know before and during Black Friday weekend, you can bookmark our guide to game offerings.

Can you buy an Xbox Series X on Main Street?

Yes, but the stock is still extremely limited. The two Smyths Toys and Game sometimes have inventory available in their stores for walk-in customers to purchase. But we’re talking about single-digit quantities here.

We recommend that you call your local stores to see if stock is available or if stock is expected over the next few days. You can also check the Smyths website, which shows when individual consoles are available in all of its stores across the UK. At the time of writing, the website states that there is no Xbox Series X stock available in store.

Meanwhile, game stores tend to run fairly active Twitter accounts. These announce when Xbox (and PS5) stock is available in each store. You can follow this list of all the Twitter accounts of the UK Game store. We’ve seen several game stores with Xbox stock in the past few days, all promoted on their respective Twitter accounts.

When was the last time AO had an Xbox restock?

Electronics retailer AO already had a few Xbox Series X restockings this month, October 12-19. As such, we don’t expect to see more AO consoles this week, but do hope for at least two restockings in November. AO’s website says the X-Series will be “back in stock soon.”

Prior to this month, AO restocked the Xbox on August 3, and then on September 1 and 17.
