Xbox is one of the biggest publishers on Steam by revenue

Microsoft’s decision to release Xbox Game Studios games to Steam is turning out to be one of the best decisions they’ve made in the past two years.

Xbox has had some pretty massive releases this year with Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite leading the way. As you may know, Microsoft has been releasing all of its proprietary games on PC for quite some time now and more recently they have started launching on Steam, instead of keeping their games exclusive to the Microsoft Store.

And it was one of the best decisions they could have made. Majority of Xbox games on Steam are quite popular among gamers, especially live titles like Sea of Thieves. The recently released Halo Infinite also has a healthy player base of around 60,000 daily users while Forza Horizon 5 has been another big hit.

In their
Best of Steam annual report, Steam reveals that three games released on Xbox are in the Top 12 new releases measured in terms of gross revenue. These three titles are Age of Empires IV, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo Infinite.

Age of Empires IV

Of course, we don’t have the exact numbers since Steam hasn’t shared the detailed data, but it’s safe to assume that Xbox made a fairly large amount of money from Steam.

Future Xbox games are also expected to launch on Steam in addition to the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app. One of the current perks of the Xbox app on PC is the PC Game Pass subscription service, which unfortunately isn’t available on Steam.

Implementing PC Game Pass on Steam may seem like a good idea after the initial success of Xbox games on Steam, but it remains to be seen if there is any initiative at Microsoft and Valve to secure such a deal.
