Weather in metro Detroit: slippery and snowy Saturday

The last full weekend of fall is more like winter. Today will be slippery with rain, snow, sleet and possible freezing rain. It will get a little snowier in the afternoon as the precipitation is more dispersed. Accumulations of ice or snow will be relatively low.

It will remain slippery tonight with freezing conditions and clouds above. Tomorrow will be brighter and colder. It stays cool but dry in the days leading up to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Wet weather today

Areas with raindrops and snowflakes will have wet and slippery roads and sidewalks. Snow-covered areas will have wet pavement which could become muddy. Up to an inch of snow will have fallen over most of Southeast Michigan, particularly north of I-94 to I-69 corridor, after this morning.

Saturday afternoon will be cold with flurries. A deeper volume of cold air will dominate most of the region. Most areas north of I-94 have a risk of snow. A winter mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible south of I-94 to the Michigan-Ohio border. Another inch of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice is possible.

Afternoon temperatures will barely budge and stay within 30 degrees, almost 35 degrees.

Snowy, wet and icy weather will set off on Saturday night, and temperatures will drop below zero as it gets dark. The sky will be mostly cloudy and the wetlands will become frozen over. Be careful when driving.

Saturday night will be cold and mostly cloudy. Overnight lows will be in the 20s and averages.

Drier Sunday

Sunday will be more sunny and will remain cold. Afternoon temperatures are around 35 degrees.

Preview next week

Monday and Tuesday will be mostly sunny and seasonal cool. The nocturnal and morning troughs will be in the 20s and middle. Daytime temperatures will reach the mid-1930s.

Wednesday and Thursday will be partly sunny and cool. The highs will be in the mid and upper 30s each day.
