The Play Store hardware you redesign begins to roll out

The rollout of Google Material You continues with the Play Store over the past 24 hours, but this redesign is not yet too visually all-encompassing, while availability is currently quite limited.

The initial hardware overhaul you have from the Play Store is limited to the four main Home screen streams. It starts with a pill-shaped search bar that makes your profile avatar fit in perfectly. Right below you will notice that the indicator on the top tab is no longer green (in the Games and Applications tabs), but rather tinted with Dynamic Color like the field above. Finally, the large Material You bottom bar is tapped with its own pill-shaped highlight.

From what users are seeing today, this is the extent of Material You and Dynamic Color in Google Play. There are no changes to the app lists or the frequently used “Manage apps and device” page. At the very least, we were expecting new button shapes throughout.

In some respect, the limited nature makes sense given the breadth of the Play Store. However, nothing seems to have changed from what we activated at the end of August. More updates are likely to come, with the Wear OS Play Store much more modern and representative today.

This redesign is not yet widely available. If you go to Settings> About> Play Store Version today, you’ll be prompted to download 27.4, but we’ve also seen reports of the new look on 27.3. As such, this is a server-side update that is just getting started. The material you’re revamping for the Play Store will likely end before Android 12 launches on Pixel phones.
