INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State took down host IUPUI and Butler as the Sycamores picked up two wins to start the weekend road trip. ISU outscored host IUPUI, 168-129, while the Sycamores beat Butler, 243-49.

“We faced a bit of adversity today, losing a few key people and knocking out the first stint,” the head coach said. Josh Christensen noted. “We did a good job overall to bounce back with good runs overall. The 200 freestyle really got us on the right track and we had a solid encounter from there.”

Webb earned the ISU’s first win in the pool as the senior recorded her third straight victory in the 200-yard freestyle event dating back to the Indiana State Tri-Meet. The Edwardsville, Illinois native dropped six tenths of a second off her previous season’s best to post a time of 1:51.41 to edge Emmaleigh Zietlow of IUPUI (1:51.76).

The Roseville, Calif. native led the field by nearly a full second in the 100-yard event with her time of 55.42 finishing ahead of IUPUI’s Lauren Thompson (56.40) in the first. test. Bukvic returned the favor in the 200-yard breaststroke edging Gilkerson 2:21.75-2:24.41 as her teammates swept the top two spots.

Sarah Moreau also topped the 200-yard butterfly standings as the junior teammate touched Molly Fogarty with his time of 2:06.84.

The Sycamores continue their preparations for the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Championships (February 16-19, Iowa City, Iowa) and they’ll get a good look at one of their top rivals in tomorrow’s doubleheader against the South from Illinois.

“We have a few weeks before the conference and we have areas to improve and details to clean up,” Christensen said. “Tomorrow will be another opportunity to work on those things against a tough SIU team.”
