HIGH EARTH, Ind. – The Indiana State Women’s Golf Team has no time to travel as the Sycamores make the short drive to Indianapolis, Indiana and the Highland Country Club for the Butler Fall Invitational. The two-day, three-round event will take place on October 4-5.
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Highland Country Club with the teams leaving for 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun tee, while the final 18 holes are on Tuesday. The course dates back almost a century and is considered a challenge for players of all skill levels, as well as fun to play.
Indiana State just posted their best result of the start of the 2021-22 season at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate last weekend. The Sycamores finished fifth in the general classification in the field punctuated by the best results of Lauren Green (3rd) and Kristen hobbs (T-12e), while Madison Branum Recorded ISU’s first round below par this year on the final day of the tournament.
Green was the Sycamores’ top player in the 2021-22 season and enters the week as the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week. The Merseyside, England native notched two back-to-back top 10 standings this fall with a matching 74-73-73 to be among the conference’s top scorers this season. In her most recent outing, Green finished among the tournament leaders scoring both 3 and 5 en route to third place at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
Hobbs also just had one of his best outings of the season as the second year climbed five places to tie for 12th overall. She climbed five positions on the final day at The Legacy Golf Course with a final round of 74 with a pair of birdies, while also being a team manager in the par-4 scoring.
Branum will make her debut in the starting lineup for the Sycamores this weekend as the junior looks to build her best individual round in Blue and White. The Lexington, SC native recorded a trio of birdies on the first nine holes and played an almost clean back-nine en route to a season 70 (-2) low. She made the most progress in the training of the Sycamores last weekend by gaining 17 places on the last day of the individual classification.
The Head Coach Greg Towne also send Chelsea tomorrow and Iyoun Chew in the starting lineup this week as the duo see their third action of the 2021 season. Morrow just finished in the top 20 overall, placing 19th at APSU Intercollegiate, while Chew finished tied for 35th rank after his three rounds on the course.
For the second consecutive tournament, the Sycamores will also send two individuals to compete within the peloton. Molly lee and Grace Welty will also represent the State of Indiana during the two-day event.
