JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You have until 10:00 PM tonight to play Powerball.
The estimated jackpot stands at $ 441 million and I think we can all agree – bringing in the New Year with some extra cash looks pretty good right now.
Action News Jax Courtney Cole visited the Welcome Food Store on Loretto Road in Mandarin. This is one of the stores in our area that is lucky when it comes to selling the winning ticket.
Customers near and far have paid a Small money at Welcome Food store for what they hoped was a big return.
The right combination of 5 numbers could make someone hundreds of millions of dollars richer.
“We saw a constant stream of people buying tickets,” said Karen Reape, manager of the Welcome Food Store on Loretto Road.
Jesse Rilea told Cole when he walked in and they told him they were the luckiest store in Jacksonville he thought he would give.
“I had a value of $ 30. I think it’s like 10 tickets or something? Rilea explained.
The Powerball jackpot is now $ 441 million and people Cole spoke to today already know what they would do with the winnings.
“Pay off some of the college debt, set up a fund for my son, he’s three now, and probably move into a bigger house for him,” Rilea told Action News Jax.
“The first thing I’m going to do is pay for my house, and then I’ll save enough money to send my grandchildren to college,” said Jeffree Ware.
Courtney Cole: “How many grandchildren do you have?”
Jeffree Ware: “Thirteen! “
The jackpot was last won on October 4, 2021 in California, when a single ticket grossed nearly $ 700 million.
Reape told Cole that they have winners in his store all the time!
“We always have people who drive like… for hours. Coming from Georgia, Alabama. They will come from South Florida. We had a couple the other night, they drove 2.5 hours just to buy their tickets, ”Reape said.
According to the Powerball website, the Powerball jackpot winners were Floridians in March and June of this year.
“We play it every week, my wife and I. She dreams of winning, so maybe this is her week! Ware cried.
“I could be that one,” Rilea said.
“You could be the one! Cole replied.
If this is your first time playing, Reape suggests playing Quick Pick (letting the computer pick the numbers for you), but also filling out a card yourself, just to give yourself the best chance of winning.
She said it best – you have to be in it, to win it!
