MAYSEL, WV (WOWK) – A new grocery store is opening this week in Clay County, West Virginia. The opening of an IGA Par Mar Marathon in Maysel will help families have easier access to food for their table.
“It will help everyone where you don’t have to drive that far and everything,” said Milford Pritt, who lives in the area.
He and others can’t wait to have a full grocery store nearby. In recent years, Clay County has had problems accessing food.
“It’s been the true definition of a food desert for a few years now,” said Dave Allen, director of community relations for Par Mar stores. “We heard the need from the community.
This week, a team is busy moving around the inventory. They spent Wednesday stocking the shelves, stocking the coolers and putting together the final details.
“People seem very, very happy that we are coming to town,” Allen said. “We also want to be a very important part of the community. “
There are other places in town where people can buy food, but the new store should be more of a traditional grocery store.
“I think it’s awesome,” Pritt said. “We had to drive 40 or 50 miles to get something to eat. “
The store is scheduled to open at 6 a.m. on Friday morning. People will also be able to buy gasoline there.
