Indiana State Soccer scores first conference victory in Evansville 4-1 loss


HIGH EARTH, Ind. – Indiana State women’s football defeated Evansville 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium to claim their first conference victory of the season. The victory brings the Sycamores record to 3-7-2 (1-2-1). Evansville’s record drops to 5-3-4 (1-2-1).

The first half didn’t see much action until 38e minute when CeCe Wahlberg scored his third goal of the season from close range. Chloee kooker recovered from a blocked shot and handed the ball to Wahlberg for his first assist of the season.

The Sycamores went 1-0 at halftime while attempting eight shots in the period. Evansville recorded nine shooting attempts in the first half.

Indiana State strengthened their lead early in the second half when Isabelle Hunter passed over the defense to Mackenzie-Kent who slipped past the Purple Aces backline and scored his third goal of the season to make it 2-0. It was Hunter’s first assist of the season.

Chloe Tesny got past defense and beat the goalkeeper on the right side to make it a 3-0 game in the 63rd minute. The unassisted goal was Tesny’s second this season.
Evansville ended the shutout offer in the 71st minute when Alex Eyler scored on an assist from Emily Ormson to make it 3-1.

Kent would score again in the 89e minute for the Sycamores to put the finishing touches to the 4-1 victory. It was his team leading the fourth goal of the season. She is the first player to score two goals in a game since Sidney ewing scored twice against Chicago State on September 16, 2018. The Sycamores won that game 8-0, which was also the last time they scored at least four times.

Indiana State finished the game with 18 shooting attempts including seven on goal. Wahlberg led the team with seven shooting attempts, including four on goal. Kent was right behind her finishing with six shot attempts. Maddie alexandre made six stops.

Evansville attempted 15 shots while putting seven on goal. Jayme-Lee Hunter and Maria Alexopoulos punctuated the Purple Aces with three shooting attempts each. Michaela Till finished with three saves.

The Sycamores will hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a 2 p.m. ET game against UNI at the UNI soccer field.
