The exterior of the Walgreens at the corner of 25th and Washington in Bellwood was painted to look like a grocery store. The NBC television show “Chicago PD” is filming on location for about two weeks, a crew member said. | Michael Roman

A vacant Walgreens at 540 S. 25th Ave. in Bellwood is likely heading for demolition to make way for a four-story, 80-unit seniors’ apartment building. But before it collapses, the building will play a bit of a grocery store role on the popular NBC television show “Chicago PD.”
Members of the film crew stood outside the old Walgreens on March 13. They said they were approached by many confused community members who think Vince’s Mart & Bakery (the name painted on the outside of the building) will be opening soon.
“Someone even asked if he could come inside,” said a worker, who confirmed the building was just a prop for Chicago PD. He said the shoot will last about two weeks.
In February, Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey said Evergreen Real Estate Group is the company leading the development, which is called Bellwood Senior Apartments.
Other community members wondered if plans to demolish the building in order to build apartments for the elderly had been scuttled.
No, the building just functions as an extra.
