DeJulio, Spotak and Brechtel receive all-conference honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Seniors Sam DeJulio, Emma Spotackand Liz Brechtel received Missouri Valley Conference All-Conference honors on Wednesday night.

DeJulio and Spotak were named to the second team, while Brechtel was named to the conference third team. These were the first All-Conference honors for all three players.

DeJulio has started in all 17 games this season for Southern Illinois, playing a team-record 1,550 minutes. The elder led a Salukis defense that allowed just 17 goals and had a 1.00 goals-against-average, which was tied for second most in the Valley.

Spotak earned second-team honors after finishing the season with three goals, the second-most on the team. The elder’s two game-winning goals led the Salukis, and her 18 shots were tied for third.

Brechtel was named to the third team after leading the team with four goals, and tied for the most assists with two on the year.

Southern Illinois finished its season with an 8-5-4 overall record and entered the program’s first-ever MVC tournament.
