Crime Stoppers Has a New Way for SC Residents to Provide Advice and Information | New

Greenville, SC (FOX Caroline) – Submitting a tip to Crime Stoppers is now just a tap away with the P3 mobile app.

Crime Stoppers and Law Enforcement across South Carolina use the app. New technology is helping to pave the way for more clues.

“They see something and they can call their phone and give the information immediately before they forget,” said Tony Lee, Greenville Crime Stoppers coordinator.

According to Crime Stoppers of Greenville, tips have doubled since the P3 was implemented. Lee said younger generations are more likely to use an app.

“They would rather use an app or use their fingers instead of talking on the phone giving this information and we have to adapt to that,” Lee said.

P3 is available for download from the App Store or Google Play. After opening the app, you will be prompted to select your location and provide details about the crime.

Like all Crime Stoppers advice, P3 ensures that the tipster remains anonymous, until the reward is received.

“It will automatically generate a number for them. They don’t leave their name, address, phone number or anything like that. We keep these people completely anonymous, and with that number, that’s how they’re going to collect their reward checks, ”Lee said.

As the Cold Affairs sleuth who is now President of Greenville Crime Stoppers, Rick Woodall knows firsthand how a trick can change the course of an investigation.

“It’s overwhelming just to get advice from someone on a cold case, homicide, recent homicide, older property crime homicide, it’s just a huge help to the forces of the order, ”Woodall said.

Keeping all advice anonymous is part of the reason Crime Stoppers work. He maintains trust with law enforcement and helps investigators resolve the case or bring home a missing loved one.

The family of Faith Roach, who went missing from Oconee County in 2019, are hoping the new Crime Stoppers billboards and the introduction of P3 will encourage someone to come forward.

“We hope that somewhere, someone will give us some information, whether it’s about Faith or one of the other loved ones who are missing. We just need answers, ”said Faith’s aunt Pamela Marcengill.
