Baseball picked sixth in the Big Ten by D1Baseball

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers baseball was chosen to finish sixth in the projected Big Ten rankings predicted by in the preview of the annual conference. Under the direction of the head coach Steve Owensthe Scarlet Knights have made progress across the board in 2021 earning their best placement (eighth) and winning percentage (.477) in Big Ten play since joining the conference.

“Coach Owens has this program going in the right direction,” the report said.

Rutgers returns 20 winners with 17 players on the roster with at least three seasons of college baseball experience. The season opener is scheduled for Feb. 18 at Houston Baptist.

The 2021 season included winning six series, a 7-5 mark against NCAA Regional Qualifiers and at least one win over every team in the league. Additionally, the Scarlet Knights led the conference in road wins (13).

The campaign was marked by a five-game winning streak against ranked Michigan and Nebraska, all on the road. Rutgers was the only Big Ten team to win a series against league champion Nebraska. Over 24 games, a standard Big Ten season, RU set Big Ten team season records in wins (12), runs (141), home runs (35), total goals (356), slugging percentage (.430), on-base percentage (.353), strikeouts recorded (196), least walks allowed (72), batting average against (.254) and saves (7).
